Corentin Moutet won a three-hour, 45-minute thriller on Sunday at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, where he upset World No. 10 Holger Rune 7-5, 5-7, 7-6(4) to earn his first Top 10 win.

The Frenchman entertained the raucous crowd on Pietrangeli with his dynamic shotmaking and recovered from squandering three match points on serve at 5-4 in the third set to eventually advance in the tie-break after three hours and 45 minutes. It was the second-longest best-of-three set Rome match since ATP Tour began recording match times in 1991 and fourth overall.

"It was so hard today," Moutet said. "He is such a great player. Even at the end when I had the break he was still fighting, trying to find a way. It was incredibly hard today. First time on this court. It is beautiful and everybody is here for us. I don't know what to say. I fought so hard today and am very happy, so happy."

Moutet d. Rune  2025 R3 3h45 (best of 3)

Moutet now leads Rune 2-1 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series and is into the fourth round at a Masters 1000 event for just the second time. In 2022, Moutet reached the last 16 on home soil at a Masters 1000 event in Paris.

"I rushed a little bit on the match points, did a couple of drop shots," Moutet said when asked about closing out. "I was very tight on the match points. I think it is my first Top 10 win and I was so tight. The forehand didn't go from my racquet. I was talking to myself that it is normal to be tight and that it is not an easy sport, especially after three hours and 30. I had to try again and again and see how it goes. If I lose the match I would have no regrets."

Rune clinched his first trophy since 2023 in Barcelona last month but was subsequently forced to retire during his opening match in Madrid due to injury.

For Moutet, his journey in the Italian capital will continue against World No. 5 Jack Draper. The British lefty defeated Czech Vit Kopriva 6-4, 6-3 to capture his 100th tour-level victory after one hour and 40 minutes.

Draper, second in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, has enjoyed a standout season, highlighted by his title in Indian Wells and final run last week in Madrid. The 23-year-old overpowered Kopriva on Day 5 in Rome, where he struck 21 winners to improve to 2-0 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Had series.

Draper has now recorded 14 Masters 1000 wins in 2025, tied with Lorenzo Musetti in first.
