
Some of the top Italian talent in the PIF ATP Rankings took to the doubles court in a popcorn clash Sunday at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome, where Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego overcame Jacopo Berrettini and Matteo Berrettini 6-7(0), 6-2, 10-8.
Top 10 singles star Musetti and World No. 44 Sonego let slip a 5/1 lead in the Match Tie-break before reeling off the four final points of the first-round encounter to down the Berrettini brothers. Musetti and Sonego crucially saved nine of 10 break points they faced in the one-hour, 42-minute clash, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
Awaiting the home favourites in the second round at the Foro Italico will be second seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten, who eased past Flavio Cobolli and Sebastian Korda 6-3, 6-3 for their first Rome win on their second appearance as a team.
Kevin Krawietz/Tim Puetz and Marcel Granollers/Horacio Zeballos also notched straightforward wins on a good day for seeded teams in the Italian capital.
Second seeds Krawietz and Puetz defeated Sebastian Baez and Alexandre Muller 6-1, 6-2, while fourth seeds and Madrid champions Granollers and Zeballos sunk Yuki Bhambri and Robert Galloway 6-1, 6-2.
