Rafael Nadal announced his withdrawal from the Qatar ExxonMobil Open on Wednesday.
"I would have loved to play in Doha, where the tournament team, as well as the amazing Qatar fans have always supported me greatly," Nadal wrote on social media. "Unfortunately I am not ready to compete and I won’t be able to come to Doha where I really wanted to be and play again after that unforgettable win in 2014."
Nadal is planning to return at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells in March.

Nadal's lone tournament of the season came in Brisbane, where he defeated Dominic Thiem and Jason Kubler before losing to Jordan Thompson in the quarter-finals.
The former No. 1 player in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings most recently competed in Doha in 2016, when he reached the quarter-finals. He won the title in 2014.
