After the rain cleared Monday evening at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, Mariano Navone made some personal history with a 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-3 win against Matteo Berrettini. With his 19th win of 2026, Navone set a new personal-best for victories in a season, improving upon his total of 18 each of the past two years.

The Argentine saved 11 of 12 break points against Berrettini, according to Infosys ATP Stats, and has now advanced to the second round at four of the past five ATP Masters 100s. His victory against the World No. 41 is his second hard-court win against a Top 50 player in the PIF ATP Rankings.

Navone, who won his first ATP Tour title in Bucharest this April, will next face 14th seed Valentin Vacherot.

Nuno Borges also advanced after the resumption of play with a 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-4 comeback against Aleksandar Kovacevic. The Portuguese advanced to the third round at the Canadian event for the third consecutive year by hitting the 20-wins mark for the third year running at tour-level. He will next bid to upset 26th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry, against whom he owns a 3-0 Lexus ATP Head2Head advantage.

In a dramatic all-French affair, qualifier Titouan Droguet beat Luca Van Assche 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(7), clinching victory on his fourth match point of the decisive tie-break. It was Droguet's first ATP Masters 1000 match win, adding to a 2026 season highlighted by a semi-final in Montpellier.

Marin Cilic, a quarter-finalist at this event in 2008, pulled away from Japanese qualifier Sho Shimabukuro for a 7-6(2), 6-1 victory. The 37-year-old Croatian saved all four break points he faced, according to Infosys ATP Stats.

Cilic is making his 124th ATP Masters 1000 appearance, the seventh-most since the series began in 1990. Feliciano Lopez tops that list with 139 appearances.
