Novak Djokovic won his US Open quarter-final against Taylor Fritz to take an 11-0 Lexus ATP Head2Head series advantage against the American.
That is not the first, second or even third most-lopsided Head2Head he owns against an opponent without a loss. It is actually the fifth. Djokovic has better undefeated records against Gael Monfils (20-0), Jeremy Chardy (14-0), Milos Raonic (12-0) and Andreas Seppi (12-0).
Djokovic's Lexus ATP Head2Heads without loss
Opponent | Record |
Gael Monfils | 20-0 |
Jeremy Chardy | 14-0 |
Milos Raonic | 12-0 |
Andreas Seppi | 12-0 |
Taylor Fritz | 11-0 |
Djokovic explained that there are two sides to the mental ramifications of walking on court with such a lopsided rivalry. On one hand, it provides plenty of confidence. But with that also comes pressure.
"You like matching up with the guys that you've never lost against. But at the same time, there's always anticipation for those matches," Djokovic said. "Like particularly with Monfils, every single time I play him, people [say], 'Okay, is this the time where he's going to beat me or not?'
"Then there's always that added pressure that you feel on the court that you need to win. You don't want to let him win even one."
Despite the one-sided rivalry, Fritz has been competitive with the former No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings in three of their four major meetings. Djokovic only defeated the American in straight sets once in those clashes. That victory came in the 2023 US Open quarter-finals, from which the Serbian emerged victorious 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.
Djokovic also owns big differentials in Lexus ATP Head2Head rivalries with opponents who have beaten him. He went 25-3 against Tomas Berdych (+22), and has gone 19-2 against Marin Cilic (+17), 18-2 against Kei Nishikori (+16) and 21-6 against Stan Wawrinka (+15). Against fellow ATP No. 1 Club member and former coach Andy Murray, he earned a 25-11 record (+14).
