Adam Pavlasek and Patrik Rikl completed a dream week together at Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag on Friday, when the Czech duo clinched its first ATP Tour title as a team.
The top seeds dropped the second set, but ultimately held firm to outlast David Stevenson and Marcus Willis 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 in the championship match at the clay-court ATP 250 event.
With their one-hour and 27-minute victory, Pavlasek and Rikl improved to 19-8 this season, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. Earlier this season, the Czech duo reached the final in Bucharest on its team debut. The pair also reached the semi-finals in Barcelona, Geneva, ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Mallorca.
The Umag title is a first tour-level crown for Pavlasek and third for Rikl, who last year won trophies in Marrakech and Kitzbuhel (with Petr Nouza). As a result of the Umag run, the duo is up two spots to 17th in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings.
