Rafael Jodar continued his surge towards a debut spot at the Nitto ATP Finals in style at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, where he charged into his first ATP Masters 1000 final.
Although he fell short to countryman Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the title match, Jodar rose two places to ninth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin. The 20-year-old Spaniard is one of four players inside the top nine chasing a debut at the season-ending event, with established contenders looking to close the gap in the race for Turin.
With Jannik Sinner having ended his 2026 season due to injury, Jodar is effectively in the final qualifying position. Fifth-placed Flavio Cobolli (3,540 points), seventh-placed Frances Tiafoe (3,380) and eighth-placed Arthur Fils (3,325) are also aiming to make their first appearance at the Nitto ATP Finals.
Cobolli lost his opening match in Shanghai, while Tiafoe and Fils both fell at the second hurdle, missing the opportunity to strengthen their position.
While the debut hopefuls look to hold their ground, former Nitto ATP Finals champion Daniil Medvedev made progress in Shanghai, where he rose two places to sixth in the Live Race after reaching the semi-finals and is now just 120 points behind Cobolli. Medvedev, who won the season-ending trophy in 2020, is aiming to return to Turin after missing qualification in 2025 for the first time since 2018.

The 39-year-old Serbian is aiming to set the standalone record for most qualifications for the Nitto ATP Finals and reach his 19th appearance. Djokovic is next scheduled to compete in Basel, where he received a wild card and will return to the ATP 500 event for the first time since 2011.
There are further opportunities to earn valuable points this week, with Medvedev headlining the field at the Almaty Open. Fils is the top seed in Brussels, while Cobolli leads the draw in Lyon.
