The Roger Federer Foundation is celebrating its 20th anniversary on 24 December.

“The Roger Federer Foundation turns 20 this year. What a milestone,” Federer said in a video on his social media. “I still remember signing the founding documents on Christmas Eve of 2003 together with my parents. Then, at the age of 22, I never could have imagined how incredibly exciting and fulfilling this journey would be.”

Federer’s eponymous foundation has helped provide 2.5 million children in seven countries better access to preschool education. Today, the foundation supports early education programmes in six Southern Africa countries and Switzerland.

Roger Federer Foundation CEO Janine Handel said: “The Roger Federer Foundation started small with a little project in South Africa, Port Elizabeth, providing some children with scholarships. Slowly, slowly, we grew then into more countries, adding programmes and reaching out to thousands of children.

“It was exciting to see how the foundation developed in the last decades, how Roger grew from being a founder of his organisation into the role of a real change-maker.”

Federer won the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award in the ATP Awards in 2006 and 2013.
