
Singles stars Alexander Bublik and Ben Shelton continued their run together at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Wednesday, moving past Francisco Cerundolo and Tomas Martin Etcheverry 1-6, 6-4, 10-5 to reach the semi-finals.
The pair is teaming for the first time in the Italian capital and has now won three Match Tie-breaks. Bublik and Shelton played electric tennis to lift the crowd in Rome, striking big on return and moving forward with intent to advance after 76 minutes.
They will face top seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos or Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen next.
Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic continued their perfect run through the Rome draw on Wednesday when they defeated third seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury 6-4, 6-4.
Arevalo and Pavic, who are yet to drop a set in Rome, won 82 per cent (32/39) of their first-serve points and saved all three break points they faced according to Infosys ATP Stats, to advance after 82 minutes.
Arevalo, 33, and Pavic, 30, first teamed at the start of this year. They hold a 16-9 record on the season, with their best result a title run in Hong Kong. Arevalo and Pavic will next meet Nikola Mektic and Wesley Koolhof or Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
Pavic is a two-time champion in Rome, having triumphed at the ATP Masters 1000 event in 2021 and 2022 with Mektic.
