Shelton to add Juan Carlos Ferrero to coaching team

Ben Shelton has strengthened his coaching team with the addition of former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero, the American confirmed on social media Sunday.

Currently at a career-high No. 4 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Shelton has won a career-best four titles in 2026 and reached his first major final at the US Open. The 24-year-old will now have an experienced addition to his team ahead of next season, with Ferrero set to join Shelton's father, Bryan, in the coaching setup.

Ferrero previously helped guide Carlos Alcaraz to his first six major titles before their partnership ended last December. Shelton, who has already qualified for his second consecutive Nitto ATP Finals, will begin working with Ferrero during the offseason.

“Huge addition to my team for this upcoming season,” Shelton wrote on his Instagram Stories Sunday. “@juankiferri excited to get started and put in work this offseason… let’s get it.”

Shelton this year captured titles in Dallas, Munich and Stuttgart before successfully defending his crown at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Canada in August. The American lefty then reached his maiden major final in New York in September, when he defeated Alcaraz in a thrilling five-set quarter-final before falling to Alexander Zverev in the championship match.

Having already qualified Zverev, Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev for the Nitto ATP Finals, Shelton will make his second consecutive appearance at the season-ending event. Before heading to Turin, the third seed will begin his Rolex Paris Masters campaign against Cameron Norrie or Matteo Arnaldi.

Shelton owns a 41-18 record in 2026, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
