The BNP Paribas Open blockbuster semi-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will decide which star will be No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings on Monday.

Sinner is trying to climb to World No. 2 for the first time and improve the mark he has already set as the highest-ranked Italian in PIF ATP Rankings history (since 1973).

Alcaraz has been inside the Top 2 since he ascended to No. 1 in September 2022 following his triumph at the US Open. He has spent 36 weeks at World No. 1.

Sinner has enjoyed a perfect start to his 2024 season, winning all 16 of his matches. The 22-year-old lifted trophies at the Australian Open and Rotterdam before reaching the last four at Indian Wells.

The Italian has won 14 consecutive completed sets and has not dropped one in the California desert. He leads Alcaraz 4-3 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series and has claimed their past two meetings. Last year at Indian Wells, Alcaraz defeated Sinner 7-6(4), 6-3 in the semi-finals.

The player who loses the Indian Wells semi-final will be No. 3 on Monday. Novak Djokovic will remain World No. 1.
