Jannik Sinner has announced his hugely successful partnership with coach Darren Cahill will end ahead of the 2027 season.
The 25-year-old Italian confirmed the change in a press release on Friday morning. Sinner, who has ended his 2026 season early due to a knee injury, reached No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings, lifted five Grand Slam trophies, won the Nitto ATP Finals twice and claimed 10 ATP Masters 1000 crowns under the guidance of Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi.
“Darren has been an incredibly important part of my journey,” Sinner wrote. “Together with Simone and the whole team, we have achieved things I dreamed of growing up. Winning five Grand Slam titles and reaching World No. 1 together are achievements I will always treasure, but what means just as much is the relationship we have built along the way.
“I want to thank Darren for his belief in me, his honesty and his dedication. He has helped me grow both as a player and as a person, and his guidance will stay with me throughout my career. We have shared so many special moments over the past five years, and while our coaching partnership is coming to an end, our friendship will continue.”
Having started working together with Sinner in June 2022, Cahill played a pivotal role alongside Vagnozzi in helping the Italian become one of the dominant forces in men’s tennis. Sinner has spent 95 weeks as World No. 1 since first hitting top spot in June 2024, and his triumph on home soil at this year’s Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome made him just the second man to complete the Career Golden Masters (winning all nine Masters 1000 events) after Novak Djokovic.
“Working with Jannik has been a special honour and privilege,” Cahill said. “He’s an amazing young man and a humble dedicated champion that we are all incredibly proud of. Trust, honesty and belief only work when it’s exchanged both ways, and this has been Jannik’s strength as an athlete. It’s also the reason that makes coaching someone like him such a memorable experience.
“I want to thank Jannik, the entire team, and all the fans for welcoming this Aussie into the wonderful Italian family. I wish the team nothing but continued success for the coming years.”
Sinner has also confirmed that Magnus Norman will join his coaching team for the 2027 season. Norman, a former No. 2 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, previously coached Stan Wawrinka to three major titles. He has just finished his second stint working with the Swiss star, who retired last week on home soil at the Swiss Indoors Basel. Prior to Wawrinka, Norman also coached his fellow Swedes Thomas Johansson and Robin Soderling.
