Leading into the final ATP Masters 1000 event of the season, the Rolex Paris Masters, Dominic Thiem is sticking with “old reliables” in ATP Fantasy.
The former No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings said that he will definitely roster Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz.
“They're both playing well. They are in great shape,” Thiem, who will use his Bonus Ball on Alcaraz, said. “Carlos is coming close to his best shape.”
Those are not the only in-form players the Austrian has his sights set on. While Alcaraz triumphed at the Erste Bank Open on Sunday, Thiem has also been impressed by the Swiss Indoors Basel winner.
“The player who is playing better than their current ranking at the moment, for me, is Valentin Vacherot. He still has a good ranking, but obviously he dropped a bit because he was defending his Shanghai title [from] last year,” Thiem said. “But he [won] Basel, so he's playing super well. [He is] really, really dangerous, especially indoors. So I think he's playing way better than his ranking right now.”
Thiem explained that he feels Stefanos Tsitsipas is a good value for the budget “and he’s playing well. He can definitely have a good run”. But there is another player he believes is a bit under the radar, whether he should be or not.
“The player outside the favourites who could surprise people in Paris, for me, is definitely Alejandro Davidovich Fokino,” Thiem said. “He must be full of confidence as he won Shanghai. I don't think that many people are picking him amongst top favourites, so he's my guy for that.”
