Jordan Thompson will never forget championship weekend from the 2024 Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo.

From Saturday evening until the early hours of Sunday morning, the Australian completed a memorable feat, winning three matches in a span of six hours and 46 minutes to lift two trophies at the ATP 250 event.

At 8:09 p.m., Thompson began his singles final against former No. 2 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings Casper Ruud. The match did not begin until then as customary at the tournament because of daytime heat. Thompson had never won an ATP Tour singles title and had faced a lot of adversity just to reach the final.

In the quarter-finals, Alex Michelsen led him 6-0, 4-1, 15/40 on Thompson’s serve. The 29-year-old not only found a way to win that match, but battled past top seed Alexander Zverev in a three-hour, 41-minute semi-final.

Yet Thompson produced his best tennis to secure the biggest win of his career against Ruud 6-3, 7-6(4).

"I spent so many hours on the court this week,” Thompson said. “In the quarter-final I could have been double bageled, I could have been losing 6-0, 6-0. And now I'm about to lift the trophy, so I think it's still a miracle.”

Thompson was not done. He returned to the court with partner Max Purcell to face Ruud and William Blumberg in the doubles semi-finals. They won 7-6(1), 6-3 after one hour and 20 minutes.

But Thompson had one more match to go. The Aussies returned and defeated Gonzalo Escobar and Aleksandr Nedovyesov 7-5, 7-6(2) to complete their tournament at 2:55 a.m.

Thompson played five hours of tennis on the final day of action to secure his two titles. In the tournament, he was on court for a combined 17 hours and 25 minutes (12 hours, five minutes in singles and five hours, 20 minutes in doubles).

According to Infosys ATP Stats, he faced a tournament-leading 49 break points in singles and saved 38 of them (77.6%). His reward was the ultimate success: two trophies.

Thompson became the first player since countryman Nick Kyrgios at 2022 Washington to sweep the singles and doubles titles at the same ATP Tour event.
