Stan Wawrinka is making the most of every moment during his farewell campaign at the Swiss Indoors Basel this week.
The former No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, who will retire after the ATP 500 event, enjoyed a change of scenery on Sunday with a visit to FC Basel.
The 41-year-old took in the Swiss Super League side’s clash against Grasshoppers, treating fans to a pre-match interview before making a memorable appearance on the pitch at half-time.
With the football fun behind him, Wawrinka will now turn his attention back to the court. He is set to receive a farewell ceremony at St. Jakobshalle on Monday before beginning his final Basel campaign on Tuesday against eighth seed Jiri Lehecka. It will be their first Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting.
Wawrinka is preparing for his 19th and final appearance at the Swiss Indoors Basel. The three-time major champion holds the record for the most tour-level wins since turning 40, with 12 victories on the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index since celebrating his 40th birthday in March last year.
