Stan Wawrinka will play for ATP Challenger Tour history on Sunday in Rennes.
The Swiss star will face top seed Hugo Gaston for the Open Blot Rennes trophy. If Wawrinka wins, he will become the oldest ATP Challenger Tour champion ever at 40 years, five months.
The former No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings is already the second-oldest Challenger finalist in history, only behind Ivo Karlovic (40 years, eight months). The oldest Challenger champion is Karlovic, who was 39 years, seven months when he emerged victorious in 2018 in Calgary.
This would also mark Wawrinka's first hard-court title at any level since he triumphed at the 2016 US Open. The Swiss is a three-time major titlist.

Wawrinka reached the final with a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory against Patrick Zahraj.
Only three players aged 40 and older have made an ATP Challenger Tour final, and Wawrinka has done it twice this year. The Swiss made the championship match at the Aix-en-Provence Challenger, where he fell to former No. 12 Borna Coric in a three-hour, 11-minute final.
