Showcasing his signature blend of speed, power and flair all in a single point, Alcaraz outlasted Daniel Altmaier in a thrilling exchange which included a tweener from the Spaniard.
In just the second game of the match, both players were trading heavy groundstrokes from well behind the baseline until Altmaier changed the rhythm with a delicate drop shot. Alcaraz turned on his jets and skillfully slid into his reply, responding with a sharp angle that drew “ooh’s” from the crowd.
Seconds later, Alcaraz sprinted towards the baseline and launched a running tweener lob to extend the rally. Alcaraz eventually ripped a backhand that the German could not return, which put an end to the show-stopping sequence. The Spaniard put his finger to his ear, inviting the Monte-Carlo to get involved.
The No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, Alcaraz went on to claim the title, his first triumph in the Principality.
