Terence Atmane enjoyed a significant career breakthrough at the Cincinnati Open. The 23-year-old qualifier charged to his first tour-level semi-final at the ATP Masters 1000 event, which was ultimately won by Carlos Alcaraz.
Atmane’s heroics have earned him a spot in the Top 100 of the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time, while Karen Khachanov has secured a return to the Top 10 after more than two years away. ATPTour.com looks at the movers in the PIF ATP Rankings as of Tuesday, 19 August.
No. 69 Terence Atmane, +67 (Career High)
“Absolutely crazy, insane,” was how Atmane reflected on his run in Cincinnati, where he dropped just two sets across seven victories (including two in qualifying). The Frenchman upset Flavio Cobolli and Joao Fonseca before stunning Top 10 stars Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune en route to the semi-finals. Although World No. 1 Jannik Sinner proved too strong in the last four, Atmane has leapfrogged 67 spots to a career-high World No. 69 after his run.

No. 9 Karen Khachanov, +3
Khachanov told ATPTour.com earlier this year that a return to the Top 10 for the first time since June 2023 was one of his biggest goals, and the 29-year-old ticked that off by reaching the fourth round in Cincinnati. Khachanov backed up his Toronto final run by defeating Valentin Royer and Jenson Brooksby in Ohio, before he was forced to retire due to back pain in the fourth round against Alexander Zverev.
No. 21 Jiri Lehecka, +5 (Career High)
Lehecka followed his fourth-round run in Toronto by reaching the same stage in Cincinnati. The Czech star’s third-round victory against Adam Walton was his 30th of the season, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, and Lehecka will now head to the US Open at a career-high No. 21 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
No. 44 Joao Fonseca, +8 (Career High)
The fast-rising 18-year-old Fonseca reached the third round on debut in Cincinnati, where he moved past Buyunchaokete and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina before falling to Atmane. The 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF champion has risen to a career-high No. 44 ahead of his main-draw debut at the US Open.
No. 51 Benjamin Bonzi, +12
Having upset Daniil Medvedev at Wimbledon in late June, Bonzi earned his second Top 10 win in the space of six weeks by sinking Lorenzo Musetti in the second round in Cincinnati. The Frenchman then defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the last 16 at a Masters 1000 event for the first time, where he fell to Felix Auger-Aliassime. Bonzi is up 12 spots to World No. 51, just nine places short of his career high.
