Few players have commanded attention on the ATP Tour this season quite like Felix Auger-Aliassime, who leads the circuit with 16 match wins in 2025.

The 24-year-old, who has amassed half the number of victories he recorded last year (32), already has his sights set on qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals. While the road ahead remains long, two-time tour-level champion in 2025 Auger-Aliassime credits his recent success to a refined approach, one that extends into the mental aspects of his game.

“We go through changes as people,” Auger-Aliassime, who owns a 16-6 record in 2025 after claiming titles in Adelaide and Montpellier, told ATPTour.com. “We improved our work physically and we also started working more on mental preparation, being dedicated to that.

“It's been interesting working with a mental coach who can give real exercises to really improve yourself. I am feeling more balanced and more sharp with my mental tools, so hopefully it can continue to work for me.”

It All Adds Up

Auger-Aliassime’s triumph at the ATP 250 in Adelaide in January snapped a 15-month title drought dating back to Basel in October of 2023. It marked a significant milestone that reaffirmed the effectiveness of his newfound discipline.

“I don’t think you ever expect things like this,” added Auger-Aliassime of his season so far. “You prepare for it, you trust your work and yourself. You know that you’re not in control of everything, but I think I have been very consistent with what’s in my control: my effort, physically and mentally, my discipline has been great. It has just worked, now let’s see how this month and the rest of the year goes.”

The Canadian No. 1’s ability to sustain peak performance over a stretch of time is not new. His 2022 campaign was highlighted by a run late in the season, in which he embarked on a 16-match win streak that included consecutive titles in Florence, Antwerp and Basel. That surge elevated Auger-Aliassime to a career high of No. 6 in the PIF ATP Rankings and secured his debut at the prestigious Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. He marked the occasion with a round-robin victory over 22-time major winner Rafael Nadal but ultimately fell short of the semi-finals.

Auger-Aliassime struggled to back up the form in his follow-up season in 2023. Though he successfully defended his Basel crown, he often found himself struggling for consistency. But he refused to be defined by the setbacks.

“You deal with changes in your life, it’s normal that the results can be impacted, but you still try your best and that’s what I’m most proud of,” said Auger-Aliassime. “I maintained myself in the Top 30, I kept going through mental and physical struggles, and I got rewarded in the end. I was able to stay competitive through it all, and it’s great, now I am back to playing some of my best tennis.”

Returning to the Miami Open presented by Itau this week, where he memorably made the semi-finals on his main-draw debut in 2019, Auger-Aliassime is determined to build on his momentum. He is currently fifth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, and remains set on returning to the season finale in November.

“If I keep being consistent like I was in the first few months and on top of that, if I play well in some of the big events, then for sure [I have a chance],” said Auger-Aliassime, who went 1-2 in Turin in 2022. “There is still a very long way to go, but I would be the first one happy with that if I make it. I do think that, for me, it’s a realistic goal any year.”

Auger-Aliassime holds an 8-5 record at the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami and opens against qualifier Tristan Schoolkate on Friday.
