Cruz Hewitt among Australian Open qualifying wild cards

Sixteen-year-old to make major qualifying debut

Cruz Hewitt, son of former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, will make his Grand Slam qualifying debut next month at the Australian Open.

The 16-year-old Australian is among the qualifying wild card recipients for the season’s first major. Other recipients are Matthew Dellavedova, Blake Ellis, Hayden Jones, Pavle Marinkov, Marc Polmans, Rei Sakamoto, Dane Sweeny and Eddie Winter.

Hewitt entered the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time earlier this year, on 9 September, and reached a career-high No. 1,245 in November.

Cruz’s father, Lleyton, is one of 29 players who have joined the prestigious ATP No. 1 Club. The 2001 US Open champion and 2002 Wimbledon winner advanced to the Australian Open final in 2005.

The qualifying entry list was also released. As of 18 December the first player on the list is Argentine Federico Coria. Notable entrants include Christopher Eubanks, Daniel Evans and 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF competitors Learner Tien, Luca Van Assche and Joao Fonseca.
