Basavareddy back in winner’s circle at San Diego Challenger

The top seeds delivered at ATP Challenger events this past week.

Nishesh Basavareddy, Max Alcala Gurri and Titouan Droguet each lifted titles as the top seed.

The American Basavareddy won his fourth Challenger title and second of the season at the Tennis Warehouse Open in San Diego. The 21-year-old, who was playing in just his fourth event since Roland Garros, defeated Brazil’s Igor Marcondes 7-5, 6-4 in Sunday’s final.

Basavareddy holds a 17-6 match record at Challenger level in 2026, including a title run on the green clay of Savannah, Georgia in April.

Alcala Gurri, 24, has played some of his best tennis this season. The Spaniard lifted his first Challenger title in May and has brought that tally up to four, with his latest triumph at the Plovdiv Challenger 4 in Bulgaria. Alcala Gurri downed Jonas Forejtek 6-4, 6-2 in the final.

At a career-high No. 138 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Alcala Gurri also won the Cervia, Royan and Cordenons Challengers this season.

Droguet earned his second title in three weeks at the Saint-Tropez Open. Needing a deciding set in three of his five matches, the Frenchman ousted countryman Harold Mayot 6-3, 7-5 in the championship match. The 25-year-old Droguet first cracked the Top 100 on 14 September and is now up to World No. 72.

Mikrut, Barrena also triumph
Croatian Luka Mikrut and Argentine Alex Barrena each earned their first title of the season. The 22-year-old Mikrut won the De Wave Open Challenger 2026 in Genoa, where he defeated Carlo Alberto Caniato 6-4, 7-5 in the title match. Barrena, 23, did not drop a set en route to winning the Buenos Aires Challenger. In an all-Argentine final on home soil, Barrena cruised past Facundo Mena 6-4, 6-0 in a 68-minute final.
