A week of grass-court action on the ATP Tour ended with a pair of first-time champions in Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Zizou Bergs.
Bergs earned a double reward for his triumph at the Lexus Eastbourne Open: The Belgian star has today risen to a career-high World No. 37, while Davidovich Fokina has pushed towards a Top-20 return with his victory at the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships. No. 37 Zizou Bergs, +11 (Career High)
Bergs arrived at the Lexus Eastbourne Open on a six-match tour-level losing streak. However, the 27-year-old left with his first ATP Tour trophy after holding his nerve in a hard-fought championship match against Ugo Humbert that took place across two days due to rain. The first Belgian to win an ATP Tour title on grass, Bergs has risen 11 spots to a career-high No. 37 in the PIF ATP Rankings ahead of Wimbledon, where he will face Humbert again in the first round.
No. 23 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, +2
After going 0-5 in his first five ATP Tour finals, Davidovich Fokina finally got over the line to a tour-level trophy with an impressively nerveless victory at the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships. The 27-year-old overcame Ethan Quinn in straight sets in the title match to become the first home champion in the history of the Spanish ATP 250, and he has risen two spots to World No. 23 as a result.
No. 47 Ethan Quinn, +16 (Career High)
Despite the disappointment of final defeat in Mallorca, Quinn can reflect on a breakthrough week on the Balearic Island. The 22-year-old American had not previously reached a tour-level quarter-final but he went two better by surging to his first ATP Tour championship match. Quinn has risen 16 spots to a career-high World No. 47 after his Mallorca exploits.
No. 53 Fabian Marozsan, +9
Chasing a Top-50 return after five weeks away, Marozsan began his week in Mallorca by saving three match points to defeat Alex Molcan. Things got easier for the Hungarian from there as he dispatched Alejandro Tabilo and Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets to reach the semi-finals. Although he then fell to eventual champion Davidovich Fokina in three sets, Marozsan has risen nine spots to World No. 53 before Wimbledon.
No. 100 Jan Choinski, +6
The 30-year-old Choinski is the newest member of the Top 100 after a career-best showing in Eastbourne. The Briton had not previously reached an ATP Tour quarter-final, but he came through qualifying on the English south coast before winning three-setters against Alexei Popyrin and Felix Gill to hit that mark. Bergs proved too strong in the last eight, but Choinski will nonetheless enter his home major of Wimbledon as a Top-100 player for the first time.
