Former Top 10 stars Matteo Berrettini and Hubert Hurkacz will meet in an intriguing quarter-final match at the Cagliari ATP Challenger 175 event on Friday.

In a rematch of their 2021 Wimbledon semi-final, won by Berrettini, this encounter shifts to a more intimate setting — the Tennis Club Cagliari.

The 30-year-old Berrettini booked his place in the Sardegna Open last eight by ousting top seed and 2024 champion Mariano Navone 7-5, 6-3. Hurkacz, seeded sixth, advanced with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Emilio Nava.

"Today was a great match," Berrettini said in Italian. “I rediscovered what I'd been missing recently — a competitive streak, that level of focus that I'd found more easily after a break in the past. That was precisely the goal of this tournament — to rediscover that kind of presence on the court. Today I succeeded, and I'm very happy, especially with the level I played.”

Among other Cagliari results from Thursday, third seed Nuno Borges escaped Cristian Garin 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(6) while Jesper de Jong upset second seed Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

Tabilo begins title quest in Aix-en-Provence, top seed Michelsen falls
Chilean Alejandro Tabilo began his quest for a second trophy in Aix-en-Provence, where he won the title in 2024. The second seed rallied past Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals.

"It’s definitely a special place," the World No. 43 said of the Open Aix Provence Crédit Agricole. "A few years ago, it was also a tough moment in my career. I think this tournament just boosted my confidence and from this tournament, it all went up and hopefully I can continue with the confidence this year. I’ve been having a great year and I hope to keep on rolling the wins this year.”

Spanish qualifier Pol Martin Tiffon continued his breakthrough tournament by stunning top seed Alex Michelsen 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, following his upset win over Grigor Dimitrov on Wednesday. Fourth seed Ethan Quinn overcame #NextGenATP Martin Landaluce 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(5), clinching his seventh match point after two hours and 59 minutes.
