The doubles opening round concluded Saturday at the Miami Open presented by Itau, with two seeded teams advancing to the last 16 and two seeded pairs bowing out early.
Third seeds Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori began their campaign with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Ariel Behar and Robert Galloway. The Italians saved both break points against them and won all 11 of their second-serve points, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic, joint No. 1s in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, also advanced with a 6-4, 6-2 result against Brazilians Rafael Matos and Marcelo Melo. Like Vavassori/Bolelli, the Salvadoran-Croatian duo did not drop serve in the win, saving all three break points they faced.
Match Tie-break heartbreak spelled an early end to the campaigns of both fourth seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos and eighth seeds Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski.
Jamie Murray and Adam Pavlasek beat Granollers/Zeballos 7-6(5), 3-6, 10-7, while Guido Andreozzi and Theo Arribage knocked out Salisbury/Skupski 4-6, 7-5, 10-6.
