Alexander Bublik brought his red-hot form to Kitzbuehel on Wednesday with a stylish opening win at the Generali Open.

Competing just three days after winning his maiden tour-level title on clay in Gstaad, the top-seeded Kazakhstani moved past Thiago Agustin Tirante 6-3, 6-4 to reach the Kitzbuehel quarter-finals. Bublik fired 17 aces and saved all three break points he faced, according to Infosys ATP Stats, during their 73-minute clash.

“It was a really warm welcome, so thank you to all the fans who came out,” said Bublik, who is competing in Kitzbuehel for the first time since 2020. “I really felt great today. I’ve been playing quite well in the past months, but every match is different. I just try to take it match by match.”

With his victory over Tirante, Bublik improved to a 14-2 record since reaching the quarter-finals at Roland Garros. This run includes titles at the grass-court ATP 500 in Halle and the clay-court ATP 250 in Gstaad.

This week in the Austrian Alps, Bublik is aiming to become the third man since 2011 to capture Gstaad and Kitzbuehel titles back to back after Casper Ruud (2021) and Matteo Berrettini (2024). He will next face countryman Alexander Shevchenko in the quarter-finals.

In the bottom half of the draw, Yannick Hanfmann continued to showcase his prowess in Kitzbuehel by upsetting second seed and 2023 champion Sebastian Baez. The German qualifier, who reached the 2020 final, rallied to a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Baez in their maiden Lexus ATP Head2Head match, improving to 12-6 at the event.

Into his fourth Kitzbuehel quarter-final in his past five appearances, Hanfmann will next meet sixth seed Arthur Rinderknech, who earlier overcame Norbert Gombos 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-4.

It All Adds Up

Jan-Lennard Struff raced past third seed Pedro Martinez 6-2, 6-2 in just 71 minutes to set a quarter-final clash with Arthur Cazaux. The 22-year-old Frenchman, fresh from his semi-final run in Gstaad, moved past Francisco Comesana 6-4, 7-6(7) and is now up 11 spots to No. 89 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.

Thiago Seyboth Wild reached his second consecutive quarter-final in Kitzbuehel with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over fourth seed Roberto Bautista Agut. He will next face Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, who was a 6-3, 7-6(4) winner against Austrian No. 1 Filip Misolic.
