Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool’s fairytale winning streak on home soil will continue into the Wimbledon final.
The British pair channeled the energy from a vibrant home crowd to a 6-3, 6-4 semi-final triumph against fourth seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos on Thursday afternoon. Having won consecutive titles at Queen’s Club and Eastbourne, Cash and Glasspool will enter their maiden major final on a 13-match unbeaten streak.
Cash and Glasspool defeated defending champions Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten in the quarter-finals and backed it up with an authoritative win over the 2023 finalists Granollers/Zeballos. The Britons are third in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings, now just 95 points adrift of second-placed Heliovaara/Patten.
Chasing their sixth trophy as a team, and first at Grand Slam level, Cash and Glasspool will face Rinky Hijikata and David Pel in Saturday’s championship match at the All England Club, which will be their maiden Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting.
Earlier, the Australian-Dutch duo saved two match points in a thrilling 6-7(2), 7-6(5), 7-6(9) win against top seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic. Hijikata and Pel, who are making their team debut, reeled off four consecutive points from 7/9 in the Match Tie-break to send the No. 1 Court crowd into a frenzy.
Hijikata won his maiden major title at the 2023 Australian Open with countryman Jason Kubler, while Pel won his only tour-level trophy with Sander Arends in Bastad in 2021. The Dutchman reached a career-high No. 70 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings in 2023.
