Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos continued their stunning form on the hard courts of North America on Saturday, when they held their nerve in a Match Tie-break to reach the final at the Cincinnati Open.
The Brazilian duo downed Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-4, 2-6, 10-2 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center to keep alive their hopes of completing the Canada-Cincinnati ATP Masters 1000 double. Luz and Matos, who lifted the trophy in Montreal nine days ago, won the final seven points of Saturday’s semi-final to extend their winning streak to nine matches.
Constantin Frantzen and Robin Haase will do battle with Luz and Matos for the trophy in Cincinnati. The German-Dutch duo upset second seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 to reach their first Masters 1000 final together.

Luz/Matos defeat Bolelli/Vavassori again, into Cincinnati SFs
Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos continued their solid run on North American hard courts at the Cincinnati Open Friday, when they upset fourth seeds Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the quarter-finals.
The Brazilians, who earlier this month defeated Bolelli and Vavassori in Montreal en route to winning their first ATP Masters 1000 crown, got the better of the Italians once again in Cincinnati. Luz and Matos triumphed 7-6(7), 6-3 in one hour and 46 minutes to advance to the semi-finals at the Masters 1000 event in Ohio.
The next challenge for the Brazilians will be a showdown with Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin, who saved one match point to edge Frenchmen Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul 4-6, 7-6(5), 11-9.
In other action, second seeds Marcelo Granollers and Horacio Zeballos moved past singles stars Luciano Darderi and Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3, 7-6(8) to set a semi-final meeting with Constantin Frantzen and Robin Haase. The German-Dutch duo defeated Theo Arribage and Albano Olivetti 7-6(1), 7-6(3).

Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin launched the Thursday action at the Cincinnati Open with a notable second-round upset against top seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten.
The Monegasque-French duo sank Heliovaara and Patten, the joint No. 1s in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Ohio. In an 81-minute encounter, Nys and Roger-Vasselin converted five of seven break points they earned, according to Infosys ATP Stats, to level their Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Heliovaara and Patten at 2-2. Their next challenge in Ohio will be a quarter-final meeting with Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul.
In other Thursday doubles action, Theo Arribage and Albano Olivetti held their nerve for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 upset of third seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic. French duo Arribage and Olivetti will play Constantin Frantzen and Robin Haase for a semi-final berth, after the German-Dutch team defeated Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury 7-6(5), 3-6, 10-4.
The final quarter-final spot at the Lindner Family Tennis Center was taken by Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. The fourth seeds overcame Adam Pavlasek and Patrik Rikl 6-3, 6-4 to set a last-eight showdown with Montreal champions Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos. Former champs Granollers/Zeballos dig deep to stay alive in Cincinnati
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos dealt with second-set disappointment in style to book their quarter-final spot Wednesday at the Cincinnati Open.
The second-seeded pair defeated Austin Krajicek and Nikola Mektic 6-3, 5-7, 10-4 at the ATP Masters 1000 event. Krajicek and 2025 Cincinnati champion Mektic levelled the match by converting the only break point of a hard-fought second set, but Granollers and Zeballos reacted by claiming seven of the first eight points in the Match Tie-break to set up a 98-minute win.
Granollers and Zeballos fended off four of five break points they faced in their second-round victory overall, according to Infosys ATP Stats. The 2021 title-winning pair in Cincinnati, they now lead Krajicek and Mektic 3-0 in the two teams’ Lexus ATP Head2Head series, having also defeated them this year in Dallas and Rome.
Awaiting Spain’s Granollers and Argentina’s Zeballos in the last eight at the Lindner Family Tennis Center will be a pair of singles stars, Luciano Darderi and Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who edged Robert Galloway and Evan King 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.
Top seeds Heliovaara/Patten open Cincinnati quest in style
Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten kick-started their title bid at the Cincinnati Open in style on Tuesday, when they cruised past Yannick Hanfmann and Miomir Kecmanovic 6-4, 6-2.
The top seeds did not face a break point, according to Infosys ATP Stats, en route to a clinical first-round victory at the ATP Masters 1000 event. Heliovaara and Patten are chasing their sixth title of the season, having already captured trophies in Adelaide, Doha, Dubai, Madrid and Wimbledon.
They will next meet Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin, who rallied past Luke Johnson and Jan Zielinski 3-6, 6-4, 10-3. Former Cincinnati champions Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos also advanced on Tuesday with a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory over Francisco Cabral and JJ Tracy.

Arevalo/Pavic rally past Khachanov/Rublev in Cincinnati Opener
Doubles action at the Cincinnati Open began Monday, when third seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic edged singles stars Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev 2-6, 7-6(2), 10-3 in the first round.
Arevalo and Pavic, who last week reached the final in Montreal, crucially saved two break points at 5-5 in the second set against Khachanov and Rublev and eventually motored to victory in one hour and 41 minutes. The third seeds finished having saved four of the six break points they faced overall, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori also kick-started their Cincinnati campaign Monday, when the fourth seeds defeated Arthur Rinderknech and Valentin Vacherot 7-6(10), 3-6, 10-5 in two hours and three minutes. The Italians are aiming to capture their third ATP Masters 1000 crown of the season after having triumphed in Miami and Rome.
In other action, Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Luciano Darderi defeated fellow singles stars Matteo Arnaldi and Lorenzo Musetti 7-5, 7-6(4). American wild cards Robert Galloway and Evan King saved a match point to upset eighth seeds Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard 6-7(4), 7-6(8), 10-7 in two hours and seven minutes.
