Flavio Cobolli is turning his best Roland Garros run into a potential career milestone.
By advancing to the quarter-finals at the clay-court major in Paris, the 24-year-old Italian has moved to the doorstep of the Top 10 in the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time. Cobolli, who takes on fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in Wednesday's last-eight clash, has climbed three places to No. 11 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.
If he overcomes Auger-Aliassime, Cobolli will move past Alexander Bublik and rise to No. 10 in the Live Rankings. If he stays inside the Top 10 of the Live Rankings by the end of the tournament, Cobolli will become just the seventh Italian to rise inside the world's Top 10 in the history of the PIF ATP Rankings (since 1973).
Prior to 2019, just two Italian men — Adriano Panatta and Corrado Barazzutti — had reached the world's Top 10. Yet since then, Italian tennis has continued to rise with Fabio Fognini, Matteo Berrettini, Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti all achieving that milestone.
Cobolli began the year as the World No. 22, though he has enjoyed strong run of form at the start of the 2026 season. He won his third ATP Tour title in Acapulco in February and reached the Munich final in April before a statement run at Roland Garros.
The 24-year-old is far from the only player poised for a significant rankings jump thanks to a standout fortnight in Paris.
Jakub Mensik has also enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the French capital, advancing to his first major semi-final. The Czech has risen 11 spots to No. 16 in the Live Rankings and is also in contention to crack the Top 10 for the first time.
#NextGenATP stars Rafael Jodar and Joao Fonseca have each produced breakthrough runs to also reach their first major quarter-finals.
Jodar, who sat outside the world's Top 700 at this time last year, has enjoyed a remarkable clay-court season. The 19-year-old Spaniard owns a Tour-leading 19 wins on the surface in 2026, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, highlighted by his maiden ATP Tour title in Marrakech in April and consecutive quarter-final appearances in Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros.
Although his Roland Garros run ended against second seed Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals, Jodar has still surged six spots to No. 23 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings. Fonseca is also making a notable move and is projected to return to the Top 25 for the first time since December.
The 19-year-old Brazilian booked his place in a maiden major quarter-final with a stunning comeback victory against Djokovic in the third round, rallying from two sets down, then defeating two-time Roland Garros finalist Casper Ruud in four sets. Although the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals champion fell to Mensik in the quarter-finals, he has climbed five places to No. 25 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.
With Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi joining Cobolli in the Roland Garros quarter-finals, Italy has achieved a major milestone. It marks the first time in the Open Era that three Italian men have reached the quarter-finals at the same Grand Slam event. Berrettini and Arnaldi have also been among the tournament's biggest movers in the rankings.
Berrettini, through to the seventh major quarter-final, has soared 58 places to No. 47 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, while Arnaldi has climbed 51 spots to No. 53. The two Italians will meet on Wednesday for a place in the semi-finals.
