Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter are back on the tennis courts just weeks after celebrating a wedding the Australian says felt "like our own little movie".
The newlyweds have wasted little time returning to competition at the Mubadala DC Open in Washington, where both are in action this week. De Minaur, the No. 6 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, is defending champion at the ATP 500 event and faces a popcorn opener against Stefanos Tsitsipas on Tuesday.
Reflecting on their wedding in Tuscany earlier this month, which followed his run to the fourth round at Wimbledon, De Minaur revealed the couple enjoyed only a brief honeymoon before getting straight back to business.
“It was an amazing time. [It was] everything we could have ever imagined,” De Minaur told ATP Media in a pre-tournament interview in Washington. “It was like our own little movie. We were able to celebrate with family and friends and have a very small honeymoon, which consisted of two days. Then we're on a flight here to Washington and getting our heads screwed back on and back to being tennis players.”
While the ceremony lived up to expectations, De Minaur admitted he is ready to get back to action for the first time since his fourth-round loss to Flavio Cobolli at Wimbledon.
"The way the season works, we're back to work, right? We're back to being tennis players," De Minaur said in his pre-tournament press conference. "That being said, I don't think much has changed for me being married. I think same old-same old. I'm definitely very excited to get going."
De Minaur will look to recreate the form with which he edged Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a remarkable final last year, saving three championship points to clinch the title. So far this year, the Australian has compiled a 27-14 record, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index and is aiming to continue a solid 2026 campaign that has already delivered a title in Rotterdam in February.
Looking back on last year's unforgettable championship match in Washington, De Minaur still remembers the resilience that helped him over the line.
“It was an epic final, an epic battle,” De Minaur said. “A little bit of ‘never say die’ attitude. A little bit of fortune… I managed to scrape through in the end and it ended up being an incredible week.”
