Jack Draper withdrew from the Mubadala DC Open on Monday afternoon due to a left arm injury.
Draper was poised to begin his North American hard-court season and compete for the first time since Eastbourne in June. Following that tournament, the lefty withdrew from Wimbledon.
"These last months have felt like nothing but adversity and setbacks. Most days I’ve spent in doubt, yet hopeful that I can keep taking positive steps forward and finding ways to progress," Draper wrote on Instagram. "On days off, I reflect, and I’m only grateful for the struggle and what it’s teaching me. Finding acceptance and being patient with the process has been my biggest challenge, but I know I’m getting closer to where I want to be!!
"Very lucky to have such amazing people to help guide me through this storm, and so with that… we keep persevering. Thank you for all the support and love ♥️"
The Briton, who received a wild card into the ATP 500 event, was scheduled to face Bloomfield Hills ATP Challenger champion Alex Michelsen. Mackenzie McDonald will take Draper’s place in the draw as a lucky loser.
Draper is currently the No. 147 player in the PIF ATP Rankings. Last year, he climbed to a career-high World No. 4.
The 24-year-old’s best result of the season came at the ATP Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells, where he ousted Novak Djokovic en route to the quarter-finals.
