Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori maintained their stunning 2025 season on the mixed doubles court by capping a dominant title run on Thursday afternoon at Roland Garros.
The third-seeded Italians downed Evan King and Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-2 to triumph at the clay major without dropping a set across their four matches. Errani and Vavassori were cool under pressure throughout the 71-minute final. The pair saved all four break points it faced, according to Infosys Stats, while they also converted three of their own 11 break points.
It was a second major mixed doubles title for Errani and Vavassori, who defeated Townsend and Donald Young to clinch the trophy at last year’s US Open. The duo also went 3-0 at the 2025 United Cup.
“Congrats to Evan and Taylor, it was some battle today against you. We had to study a lot,” said Errani at the trophy presentation. “Thanks of course to Andrea, my best friend. It is so much fun to play with you. You are an amazing person, and it is special to be here with you. You had an incredible tournament.”
Vavassori added: “Thanks to Sara. It is unbelivable to be in another Grand Slam final together. We had an amazing run at the US Open, it was a dream come true. We love to play together. We are best friends, so it is amazing.”
It was a seventh Grand Slam crown for Errani, who has lifted five women’s doubles crowns to go with her two mixed doubles triumphs. The 38-year-old could still lift her eighth major doubles title on Sunday in Paris: She is into the semi-finals of the women’s doubles alongside her fellow Italian Jasmine Paolini.
Thursday’s victory helped banish 2024 disappointment for Vavassori on Court Philippe-Chatrier, where he fell in that year’s men’s doubles championship match. The 30-year-old, who is No. 8 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, has reached three major men’s doubles finals overall.
