Arthur Fils has withdrawn from Roland Garros due to injury, the tournament announced on Friday evening.
The 14th seed battled past Jaume Munar in a thrilling five-setter on Thursday in Paris, needing four hours and 25 minutes to secure his place in the third round. But instead of facing Andrey Rublev on Saturday, the 17th seed will move into the fourth round by walkover.
Fils admitted after clawing past Munar that he was "a bit tired, to be honest". He struggled physically towards the end of the match before finding a way to advance.
"The back a bit," Fils said of what was bothering him. "Got some issue with the back, but that's since I'm young, so I'm used to [it]. And also the cramps. A bit of everything. The mix was not very good."
Rublev will next play the No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, Jannik Sinner, or big-hitting Czech Jiri Lehecka.
