Sebastian Korda has undergone a successful back surgery in his bid to return pain-free to the ATP Tour.
The 26-year-old American announced on social media on Saturday that he had opted for surgery, which he hopes will resolve lingering pain. A former No. 15 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, Korda has not competed since he reached the fourth round at the Miami Open presented by Itau in late March.
“It’s been 4 months off-court managing pain in my back with a lot of pressure on my sciatica,” Korda wrote alongside a picture of himself post-surgery. “After different treatments we decided to have a swift surgery that has finally relieved the pain. What a relief.
“Massive thank you to Dr. Qureshi and his team. Now it is time to recover, heal and get back to work. Thanks everyone for the support. See ya’ll soon!”
Korda is 12-6 for the season, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, a tally that includes his February run to his third ATP Tour title in Delray Beach. His most recent victory was a three-set upset of then-World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the Miami third round.
