Alcaraz learns first grass-court opponent of 2025 following Queen's Club draw...

Carlos Alcaraz will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in his first grass-court match of the season at the HSBC Championships, following the draw on Saturday.

The Spaniard arrives at the ATP 500 in London off the back of winning his fifth major at Roland Garros. The 22-year-old overcame Jannik Sinner in five sets in the longest final in tournament history but will now turn his attention to grass.

If the top seed and 2023 champion defeats countryman Davidovich Fokina, he will play Jordan Thompson or Jaume Munar in the second round. Alcaraz is seeded to meet Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals and could face Holger Rune or Jakub Mensik in the semi-finals.

Shelton starts against a qualifier, former semi-finalist Rune plays Matteo Arnaldi and Miami champion Mensik takes on 2021 finalist Cameron Norrie. Grigor Dimitrov and Gael Monfils are also in the top half and meet in the first round. The Frenchman Monfils leads Dimitrov 4-3 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series.

In the bottom half, second seed Jack Draper takes on Jenson Brooksby in the first round and is seeded to play Frances Tiafoe in the quarter-finals. Draper could face Alexei Popyrin or a qualifier in the second round, while Tiafoe begins against British wild card Daniel Evans. Draper defeated Alcaraz at The Queen’s Club last year and returns this week at a career-high No. 4 in the PIF ATP Rankings.

Third seed Taylor Fritz is in the same section as fifth seed Alex de Minaur. Fritz begins against a qualifier and De Minaur takes on Jiri Lehecka. Fritz and De Minaur are potential semi-final opponents for British lefty Draper.
