Daniil Medvedev advanced to the third round at Roland Garros on Thursday when he moved past Miomir Kecmanovic, who was forced to retire in the second set. Medvedev led the Serbian 6-1, 5-0 in 55 minutes when play was stopped on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

The fifth seed played flawlessly for the duration of the clash. The 28-year-old committed just six unforced errors and was dominant in the baseline rallies, wearing down Kecmanovic with his pinpoint accuracy and depth.

With his victory, Medvedev improved to 4-0 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series. The No. 5 in the PIF ATP Rankings is chasing his second major and will next play Argentine Mariano Navone or Czech Tomas Machac.

"I was happy with my level and looking forward to next matches," Medvedev said. "Of course a bit lucky with all the weather to be finished in good timing with my second round and getting ready for the third round."

Medvedev, who is 9-7 at Roland Garros, holds an 8-3 record on clay this year, with his best result a quarter-final run at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid.

In other second-round action, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov moved past Hungarian Fabian Marozsan 6-0, 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 40 minutes.

The 10th seed won 89 per cent (34/38) of his first-serve points and was solid from the baseline, hitting 34 winners to 19 unforced errors to reach the third round in Paris for the eighth time. The 33-year-old will next meet Zizou Bergs after the Belgian qualifier beat German Maximilian Marterer 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3.

Italian Matteo Arnaldi advanced to the third round in Paris for the first time when he dispatched Frenchman Alexandre Muller 6-4, 6-1, 6-3. The 23-year-old, who reached the fourth round at the US Open last year, will next take on sixth seed Andrey Rublev.

American Sebastian Korda overcame Soonwoo Kwon 6-4, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. The No. 28 in the PIF ATP Rankings fired 13 aces en route to his second Lexus ATP Head2Head win against the South Korean. Korda meets third seed Carlos Alcaraz in the third round.
