Meet Clement Tabur, who faces Sinner at Roland Garros

Frenchman Clement Tabur is set for the biggest match of his career on Tuesday, when he meets top seed Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros.

The 26-year-old received a wild card into his home Slam, where he will be making his second major appearance. Ahead of Tabur’s first-round showdown with Sinner, ATPTour.com highlights key info to know about the home hope.

Childhood inspiration
Born in Reims in northeastern France, Tabur has long admired Rafael Nadal, who won on the Parisian clay a record 14 times. Like Nadal, Tabur’s favourite surface is clay.

Passionate sports fan
Tabur loves watching sports, including football, golf and cycling. He is a fan of Belgian cyclist Mathieu van der Poel. The grand depart of the 2028 Tour de France, the 115th edition of the historic race, will take place in Tabur’s hometown Reims. Tabur supports Angers SCO football club.

Enjoying career-best season
Last month, Tabur earned his biggest career title when he claimed his first ATP Challenger trophy in Tallahassee, Florida. His recent success helped him reach a career-high No. 165 in last week’s PIF ATP Rankings. Tabur has posted a 15-8 match record at Challenger level this season.

Biggest test yet
Tabur last year advanced through qualifying in Paris to make his major main-draw debut. One year later, he will now stand across the net from the World No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings. Tabur is yet to play a Top 50 opponent. Just last week at the ATP 250 in Geneva, Tabur went toe-to-toe with World No. 61 Alexei Popyrin throughout a three-hour, five-minute battle, which the Australian won 7-6(2), 6-7(5), 6-4.

Tabur was given a wild card into the main draw after 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka moved into the field by direct entry, following the withdrawal of Lorenzo Musetti.

Sights set on PIF ATP Rankings goal
Flashback to May 2018 and Tabur was the No. 10 player in the ITF Junior Rankings. As a professional, he first broke the Top 500 of the PIF ATP Rankings in November 2021 and the Top 200 last November. Tabur, the No. 171 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, has a goal of cracking the Top 100.
