On Wednesday, the Frenchman met the Brazilian hero at the Miami Open presented by Itau.
“He's such a legend,” Monfils told ATPTour.com. “He is someone that when I was young, of course I was looking at him. He is a legend of the sport.”

Monfils has become a star in his own right on the tennis court. The fans’ favourite has won 12 ATP Tour titles and reached No. 6 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
The 37-year-old found good form at Indian Wells, where he reached the fourth round. Monfils will play Dusan Lajovic in the Miami first round.
