Corentin Moutet’s inspired run continues to light up the Mallorca Championships presented by ecotrans Group.
The mercurial Frenchman on Friday overcame Alex Michelsen 6-4, 7-6(3) at the grass-court ATP 250 with a typically highlight-filled semi-final display. With his win, Moutet advanced to his second tour-level championship match, in which he will face Tallon Griekspoor, 1,994 days after his first (Doha, 2020, l. to Rublev).
“I’m very happy about my performance,” said Moutet after his one-hour, 55-minute win. “He’s such a great player. A good guy as well, so I was happy to share the court with him. I feel better and better every day. I am playing better from the baseline. It was nice to play at night today. It was not that hot like the other days, so I’m very happy.”

The semi-final between Moutet and Michelsen began with three consecutive breaks of serve, two of which went to Moutet. That proved enough for the Frenchman to take the opening set. In the second, Moutet let slip an early break lead but later held firm in the tie-break to complete victory despite only managing to convert two of 10 break points he earned, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
Moutet played with plenty of variety to nullify the big-serving threat of Michelsen in the pair’s maiden Lexus ATP Head2Head clash. He used the drop shot to bring the American forwards whenever possible, and he produced a series of classy lob winners that had the evening crowd at the Mallorca Country Club on its feet.

Moutet has risen 14 spots to No. 69 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings as a result of his Mallorca run so far. If he claims his maiden ATP Tour title, he will rise to No. 60 in Monday’s edition of the PIF ATP Rankings.
The 26-year-old's opponent in his second ATP Tour final will be Griekspoor after the Dutchman earlier continued his impressive start to the 2025 grass season with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph against Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The fourth-seeded Griekspoor, competing in his first event since Roland Garros after an abdominal injury, clinched the only break of serve in each set to sink second seed Auger-Aliassime in 91 minutes. With his victory, Griekspoor avenged his defeat in the pair’s only previous Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting, on the grass of ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2022.
The World No. 34 Griekspoor is chasing his third ATP Tour crown following his 2023 title runs in Pune and ‘s-Hertogenbosch, respectively. He is into his second final of this season after also reaching that stage in April in Marrakech.
Saturday’s showdown between Griekspoor and Moutet will be the first tour-level meeting between the two. However, they did play twice in 2018, once in qualifying at the ATP 250 in Antwerp and once at an ATP Challenger Tour event in Orleans. Griekspoor prevailed in straight sets on both occasions.
