There was royalty in abundance at Wimbledon on Thursday afternoon, when former the former No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings Andy Murray and Catherine, Princess of Wales made an appearance at the grass-court major.
Murray, the two-time Wimbledon champion, retired in 2024 but has remained close to the sport. On Thursday, the 39-year-old joined the Princess of Wales and former WTA player Anne Keothavong to watch home favourite Katie Swan’s defeat to Madison Keys on No. 1 Court.
Catherine has been patron of the All England Club since 2016.
Many of Murray’s fondest memories were forged just a few hundred metres away from No. 1 Court: On Wimbledon’s Centre Court, the Scot won titles at The Championships in 2013 and 2016, respectively, and also triumphed at the 2012 Olympics in southwest London.
After famously coaching former rival Novak Djokovic at last year’s Australian Open, Murray began mentoring British lefty Jack Draper through this year’s grass swing. Draper withdrew ahead of Wimbledon but reached the semi-finals at Eastbourne last week.
