Heavy rain has interrupted Monday’s play for a second time at Roland Garros.
After an earlier delay of approximately one hour, play on uncovered courts was suspended again shortly before 3 p.m. at the clay-court major in Paris. Nine men’s singles matches that have already started are currently suspended. Play continues on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, where the retractable roof has been deployed and former finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas has claimed the first set against Marton Fucsovics. Earlier, Jannik Sinner completed a 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 win against Christopher Eubanks under the roof.
On Court Philippe-Chatrier, which is also fitted with a roof, 14-time champion Rafael Nadal’s blockbuster Lexus ATP Head2Head clash with fourth seed Alexander Zverev is due to get underway shortly.
In rain-affected matches, the 21st seed Felix Auger-Aliassime is in a healthy position in his opening-round match against Yoshihito Nishioka on Court 6. The Canadian will serve for the match at 6-2, 6-4, 5-4 upon resumption. Among the other suspended matches is Ben Shelton’s clash with home favourite Hugo Gaston. The 21st seed Shelton recovered well after dropping the first set on Court 14, reaching a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-2 lead before play was stopped for the second time.
