De Jong, Bergs qualify for Roland Garros

Jesper De Jong qualified for Roland Garros for the first time on Friday when he defeated American J.J. Wolf 6-1, 6-2.

The Dutchman, who lost to Jannik Sinner in the second round at the Australian Open in January, will play Briton Jack Draper in the first round. Wolf has received a lucky loser spot and plays third-seeded Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.

Belgian Zizou Bergs, who won a set against Rafael Nadal in Rome, moved past Frenchman Mathias Bourgue 6-2, 7-6(4). The No. 102 in the PIF ATP Rankings lost in the Australian Open first round to Stefanos Tstisipas this year. He will play Chilean Alejandro Tabilo in his Paris main draw opener.

Austrian Filip Misolic downed Frenchman Quentin Halys 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 and will face Christopher O'Connell. Brazilian Thiago Monteiro, who advanced to the third round in Paris in 2020, beat Spaniard Daniel Rincon 6-4, 6-2. Monteiro will play Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round.

Argentine Roman Andres Burruchaga overcame Slovakian Jozef Kovalik 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4, while Brazilian Felipe Meligeni Alves sunk Portugal's Jaime Faria 6-4, 6-2. Burruchaga meets Jan-Lennard Struff, with Meligeni Alves taking on Casper Ruud.

Mikhail Kukushkin defeated Italian Francesco Maestrelli 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3. The former World No. 39 is making his 11th appearance at the clay-court major and faces Fabian Marozsan in the first round. Germany's Henri Squire clawed past Italian Andrea Vavassori 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Squire plays Max Purcell in what will be his first main draw match at a major.
