Two-time Roland Garros finalist Dominic Thiem made a winning start to his qualifying campaign at this year’s event on Monday when he defeated Italian Franco Agamenone 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The former No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings hit 41 winners against Agamenone to move into the second qualifying round after two hours and 21 minutes. Thiem has fond memories in Paris, holding a 28-10 record at the clay-court major. If he qualifies, it will be the final time the 30-year-old competes at the major after he announced earlier this month that he will retire at the end of the 2024 season.

In other action, there were victories for Frenchmen Enzo Couacaud and Manuel Guinard on Monday. Couacaud, who won a set against Novak Djokovic at the 2023 Australian Open, downed South Korean Seongchan Hong 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-1, while Guinard beat Ukranian Vitaliy Sachko 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1.

Facundo Bagnis has reached the second round at Roland Garros three times. The Argentine defeated Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera 6-3, 6-2, while former #NextGenATP finalist Juan Manuel Cerundolo overcame Beibit Zhukayev 6-4, 6-3. Argentine Cerundolo, 22, won a tour-level title on clay in Cordoba in 2021.

Italian Giulio Zeppieri reached the second round in Paris last year. He started his journey at this year’s event against countryman Stefano Travaglia, advancing 6-3, 6-2. Five-time tour-level finalist Filip Krajinovic moved past American Martin Damm 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-1. The Serbian Krajinovic advanced to the third round at Roland Garros in 2019 and 2022.
