Roland Garros qualifying action came to a close with final-round action Friday, when a host of players earned their way into the main draw of the clay-court major.
Filip Misolic sprung an early third-round surprise by upsetting second seed Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 6-4. The Austrian won 77 per cent (24/31) of points behind his first delivery, according to Infosys Stats, to wrap an 87-minute victory and qualify for the main draw in Paris for the second consecutive year.
Lloyd Harris also clinched his qualifier’s spot with victory against a seeded opponent. The South African overcame 2022 Roland Garros semi-finalist Marin Cilic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Meanwhile Giulio Zeppieri booked a first-round meeting with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz on the Paris clay. The 23-year-old Italian Zeppieri defeated Federico Agustin Gomez 6-1, 6-4, and later found out he was facing Alcaraz after the Spaniard’s original opponent, Kei Nishikori, withdrew.
