Roland Garros 2026: Where the 4-hour-Slam slugfest record is already broken!

The ATP Tour’s finest are digging deep in their pursuit of major success at 2026 Roland Garros.

While grinding out victories at the clay major has never been a straightforward task, there has been an unprecedented number of lengthy battles this year in Paris. After just three completed rounds of action, there have already been 20 men’s singles matches that have lasted four hours or more. That is the most on record since 1999, when match times began to be reliably recorded.

Roland Garros 2026 will not just set a new high in the four-hour-plus stakes but likely sail past the previous record. At the Australian Open in both 2009 and 2024, 17 matches went past four hours, but those editions of the hard-court major are now a relatively distant joint second on the list after a lung-busting first week of action this year in the French capital.

Most 4-hours-plus Matches At A Single Grand Slam Tournament

There has also been little sign of tournament fatigue affecting ATP Tour players' appetite for taking the long road to victory as the opening week of Roland Garros has progressed, with the 16 third-round matches contested across Friday and Saturday yielding eight encounters that lasted more than four hours.

Those matches included Juan Manuel Cerundolo’s five-hour, 57-minute victory against Martin Landaluce— the third-longest Roland Garros match on record — and Matteo Berrettini’s five-hour, 13-minute win against Francisco Comesana.
