Eight players booked their spots in the main draw of Roland Garros on Thursday, including #NextGenATP Italian Federico Cina and rising Briton Toby Samuel.
Cina rallied past Canada’s Alexis Galarneau 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 in the final round of qualifying for the clay-court major and will now make his main-draw debut at a Grand Slam tournament. The 19-year-old is ninth in the PIF ATP Live Next Gen Race and is aiming to debut at the 20-and-under Next Gen ATP Finals at the end of the year.
Samuel, competing at a career-high No. 159 in the PIF ATP Rankings, also earned his main-draw debut at Roland Garros after three sets. The 23-year-old overcame Gonzalo Bueno 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
Michael Zheng will compete in his second consecutive major main draw after stunning top seed Jesper de Jong 7-5, 6-3. The American, who graduated from Columbia University earlier this month, earned his first tour-level win at the Australian Open in January, when he beat countryman Sebastian Korda in the first round.
Zheng has qualified for the 2026 PIF ATP Next Gen Accelerator, which provides additional playing opportunities for the best up-and-coming stars across junior, college and traditional pathways.
Andrea Pellegrino continued his good run of form by defeating 2018 Roland Garros semi-finalist Marco Cecchinato 7-6(5), 6-2. Pellegrino reached the fourth round at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome last week before falling to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.
The Italian will now make his Grand Slam debut at Roland Garros. He will be joined in the main draw by Juan Carlos Prado Angelo, Jaime Faria, Thomas Faurel and Facundo Diaz Acosta, who all won their final qualifying matches on Thursday.
