Holger Rune will return to competitive action later this month when he represents Denmark in the Davis Cup.
The 23-year-old has been sidelined since last October when he suffered an Achilles injury in Stockholm. On Tuesday, Rune took to social media to reveal that he is finally set to compete again.
“I have great news today to tell you all and great news for myself that I will be coming back at the end of the next week for the Davis Cup,” Rune said on Instagram. “I am thrilled. I am so excited. It has been 11 months of hard work and I can’t wait to see all my fans and all the Danish people and all the fans around the world again.
“I missed it so much and to be back playing and starting at home will be beautiful. See you guys the 18th September in Copenhagen for my first match. Let’s go.”
Denmark plays Bulgaria in a World Group I tie, which will take place from 18-20 September.
Rune has reached a career-high No. 4 in the PIF ATP Rankings and is a five-time tour-level titlist, highlighted by his run to the ATP Masters 1000 crown in Paris in 2022. Last month Rune stepped up his return preparations when he trained with Carlos Alcaraz in Murica. You can view the best photos from that session here.
