Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz will lead star-studded fields in Hamburg and Geneva as 22 of the World’s Top 30 players have signed up to play the ATP Tour events in the week leading into Roland Garros.
Having this year moved to the Roland Garros qualifying week, the ATP 500 in Hamburg boasts three Top 10 players (Sinner, No. 8 Andrey Rublev, No. 9 Holger Rune) and five more Top 20 players (No. 11 Lorenzo Musetti, No. 12 Tommy Paul, No. 17 Frances Tiafoe, No. 18 Stefanos Tsitsipas and No. 19 Felix Auger-Aliassime).
Sinner, who last week resumed practice at the Monte-Carlo Country Club, will return to the ATP Tour the week of 5 May at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome after completing a three-month period of ineligibility in a case resolution agreement with WADA. The Hamburg Open will mark just his third event of the season (also Australian Open) as Sinner looks for form and confidence heading into the year’s second major.
The Italian seeks to defend his hold on the No. 1 PIF ATP Ranking and also to win his third consecutive Grand Slam title, following triumphs at the 2024 US Open and this year’s Australian Open.
The Hamburg Open announced its full playing field today. World No. 21 Francisco Cerundolo, No. 22 Ugo Humbert, No. 23 and Miami champion Jakub Mensik, No. 24 Sebastian Korda, No. 27 Jiri Lehecka and No. 29 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will also compete.
At the Gonet Geneva Open No. 15 and two-time Roland Garros finalist Casper Ruud, No. 16 Grigor Dimitrov and No. 20 Tomas Machac will join World No. 4 Fritz.
Five other Top 30 players will also suit up at the ATP 250 in Switzerland: No. 25 Karen Khachanov, No. 26 and Montreal champion Alexei Popyrin, No. 28 Hubert Hurkacz and No. 30 Denis Shapovalov.
Both tournaments run Sunday to Saturday (18-24 May), finishing one day before Roland Garros starts on Sunday, 25 May.
