Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open due to a right knee injury, the tournament announced on Sunday.
"After consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I need to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati,” Sinner said. “My right knee has been bothering me and even though we have been working hard with my medical team, I have to accept that I’m not ready to compete yet.
“I’m very disappointed not to be able to play in Cincinnati and wish Bob and his whole team a great and successful event. I can’t wait to be back next year and I’m now focusing on getting ready for the US Open.”
The Italian most recently competed at Wimbledon, where he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final to capture his fifth major and improve to 11-4 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series.
Earlier this year, Sinner swept the first five ATP Masters 1000 titles, culminating in Rome, where he joined Novak Djokovic as just the second player in history to complete the Career Golden Masters.
Sinner holds a 12-4 record in Cincinnati, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, highlighted by his title run in 2024. Sinner’s withdrawal follows Carlos Alcaraz’s, who is continuing to recover from a wrist injury that has sidelined him since April.
The Cincinnati Open main draw begins on 13 August and runs through 23 August. Zverev and Djokovic are among the stars in action.
