Carlos Alcaraz's loss to Grigor Dimitrov Thursday evening at the Miami Open presented by Itau can lead to a double whammy on Sunday for the Spaniard.
If Jannik Sinner wins the tournament, he will pass Alcaraz in the PIF ATP Rankings and climb to a career-high World No. 2 next Monday. Anything less, Alcaraz will remain No. 2 and Sinner No. 3.
The Italian has already set the mark for highest-ranked player from his country in PIF ATP Rankings history. Now the 22-year-old is two victories from breaking his own record.

Sinner will face Daniil Medvedev in the Miami semi-finals, a rematch of last year's final at Hard Rock Stadium. In the pair's most recent Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting, Sinner rallied from two sets down to defeat Medvedev in the Australian Open final.
Dimitrov also has an opportunity to make a big move. The Bulgarian will return to the Top 10 for the first time since 2018 if he eliminates Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals. By reaching the championship match, Dimitrov would soar to No. 9, also passing Hubert Hurkacz. A title would propel him to World No. 7.
Medvedev and Zverev are locked into their current positions. Defending champion Medvedev will depart Florida as World No. 4 and Zverev will remain World No. 5.
