American Jordan Lee became the first qualifier to win the boys’ singles title at a major since Noah Rubin in 2014 on Sunday, when he battled past Australian Cruz Hewitt 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to clinch the Wimbledon trophy.

The 16-year-old Lee recovered from a slow start and then rallied from a break down in the decider against 17-year-old Hewitt – the son of former Wimbledon champion and World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt – to earn victory after one hour and 56 minutes on No. 1 Court.

Lee is the 13th American player to win the boys’ singles title at The Championships and first since 2021, when Samir Banerjee triumphed.

“First of all I want to say congrats to Cruz and the whole team, you’ve had a great week and it was really fun sharing the court with you and I am sure we will be on the court a lot more in the future,” Lee said during the trophy presentation.

“For me standing here with the trophy means a lot. Very few people know what I have been through this past year and a half, dealing with a lot of injuries. A year ago I was sitting on the couch at home and didn’t know if I was going to play tennis again, so I am really happy to be here.”

Aged 16 years and 69 days, Lee was the youngest player to compete in the boys’ singles draw this fortnight. The American was competing in just his second event on grass, having reached the third round at a J300 event in Roehampton.

Hewitt was aiming to capture his first Grand Slam boys’ singles title. The 17-year-old did not drop a set en route to the final.
